Consumer, Building and Occupational Services (CBOS) is seeking your input on a draft Bill to amend the Building Act 2016 (the Building Act) as well as a draft regulation.
The Building Amendment Bill 2025 (the Bill) and the Building Amendment Regulations 2025 (the amendment regulations) support the government’s commitment to reduce red tape and ensure that industry requirements are fit-for-purpose and easy to navigate.
The proposed amendment will enable the Building Act to prescribe a blanket delay, variation, or non-implementation of new versions of the National Construction Code (NCC). The amendment regulations then effectively freeze the NCC so that the Building Act will continue to refer to the NCC 2022 rather than transitioning to the NCC 2026 in May 2026.
