Gas-fitting licence - practitioner

There are three categories for gas-fitting licences:

  • Practitioner
  • Contractor
  • Provisional

Eligibility

To apply for a practitioner gas-fitting licence you must have completed a minimum of Certificate III in Gas-Fitting, Certificate III in Plumbing or Certificate III in Mechanical Services plus Certificate IV competencies.

Renewing an expired licence

You cannot renew a licence if it has expired for more than 60 days.  You are required to submit a new application.

If your licence has been expired for more than 3 years you will need to provide your qualifications with your application.  This is to assess your suitability to work in the industry since you were last licensed.

Caravan and boat endorsement – mandatory refresher course

All gas-fitters holding a Gas-fitter Certifier Caravan and/or Boat Endorsement are required to complete a refresher course every three years to be eligible for renewal of that endorsement. This is a requirement of the Occupational Licensing (Gas-fitting Work Licence Classes – Gas Installation) Determination 2016. You must successfully complete the mandatory refresher course before applying to renew your licence with that endorsement. For course details: read more.
