This two hour course specifically looks at the changes to roof construction and ventilation in both single and multi-residential applications, which have been completely overhauled in NCC 2022 Condensation Provisions (Housing Provisions section 10.8.3). The course focuses on real world application of the requirements – and is relevant to practitioners like architects, designers, roofing contractors, permit authorities, builders, and tradespersons.

The course breaks down these requirements and uses various practical examples that relate to current construction assemblies and practices. This includes many examples of proprietary products which are now available to manage condensation in buildings. This course is “product neutral” and does not push a single given brand of products.

It covers:

  • allowable membranes, their properties and their selection membrane layering relative to other materials in the roof (insulation, blankets, drainage battens, roof sheeting etc)
  • how to determine the best location of ventilation pathways through the roof layers designing compliant and effective supply and exhaust pathways, and various proprietary products which facilitate this
  • design solutions for flatter roofs, high loft (high R value) insulation, and cathedral roof designs
  • and ventilation around box gutters, parapets and in BAL areas.I

About 1/3 of this course is a practical session, using scale models of typical roof assemblies in a problem solving/explanatory way. This allows attendees to better understand and interpret the applications of the NCC.

There is no cost for this event.
