Beware of travelling con artists offering cheap roof painting services

CBOS has received information advising that travelling con artists have been operating a roof painting scam in the North-West and North of the state.

The scam typically involves unsolicited offers of roof painting and driveway repairs. After a victim has paid for the work, it is either left undone or is completed to a poor standard. In some cases, work has been completed despite the business or resident declining the offer.

Illegitimately low prices, high-pressure sales and intimidation tactics are all common factors from previous reports.

Consumer Affairs and Fair Trading Tasmania advise all consumers to do their due diligence when agreeing to work with service providers and suppliers, and that it is best practice to seek multiple quotations from reputable tradespeople before agreeing to any work.
